Orb: an AI assistant for Windows

An AI assistant for Windows should fit the work you already do on your computer. Orb is a downloadable, voice-first assistant for Windows 10 and 11. It works with your own accounts and keys, rather than giving you another inbox to manage. You can talk to it or type a request, then review what it proposes.

Start with your email and calendar

Ask which messages need your attention, have Orb draft a reply, or add a call to Google Calendar. Gmail and Calendar require your Google account connection. Orb can read your week, move an event, and keep reminders alongside the work. Drafting and sending are different: outbound actions ask for your approval.

For research, Orb searches the web, reads pages and returns links. Its notes tools can work with an Obsidian folder or Google Docs. Recall draws on your notes and documents and tells you where it found an answer. These are practical tasks to test against your own routine, not a promise that every answer will be right.

Local software, connected services

Orb runs on your Windows PC and keeps its files and plain-text action log there. When your computer is off, Orb is off. Running locally does not mean every request stays offline: your requests go to Anthropic and the services you choose to connect, using your credentials. Review those providers' terms and the permissions you grant.

Optional screen control lets Orb see, click and type during a session you approve. You do not have to enable it for email and calendar tasks. A pause switch stops actions, and read-only background check-ins produce briefings and drafts rather than sending things. Orb does not spend or move money.

Setup and the full cost

Install Claude for Windows, sign in with Claude Pro, open the Code tab and attach your Orb zip. Say: help me set this up. Claude installs the pieces, asks for your keys and runs the checks. You still handle personal sign-ins and approvals. Later changes use Claude Code through the same Claude Pro plan.

Orb opens October 15 at $349 once. Claude Pro is required for setup and changes at $20/month. Orb itself uses your own Anthropic API key, usually about $5–15/month, with a usage cap you set. The one-time software price is not a claim of zero running costs. Orb Assistant is independent, not made or endorsed by Anthropic.

Questions about Orb

Does Orb support Mac or Linux?

No. Orb supports Windows 10 and 11; its voice input, ring window and background mode depend on Windows.

Which AI assistant is best for Windows?

It depends on your tasks and budget. Orb suits people who want voice-first work with their own PC, accounts and keys, and are comfortable with Claude Pro and separate API costs.

Do I need to write code?

No. Claude handles setup and changes from your requests. You provide your keys, sign in to connected accounts and approve actions when needed.
